SMALL MOSCOW OFFICE

made some photos of the editorial office of the russian art magazine iskusstvo, where i spent all saturday. 

i like such small spaces, they feel like home, especially with such sweat artworks on the walls)) i can imagine how i make tea in this tiny kitchen after finishing writing some long article about the exhibition i've seen on the weekend and discassing with colleagues some arty gossip. sometimes i wish i didn't change profession and proceeded with journalism)

Just found in the web - Conde Nast Russia president Karina Dobrotvorskaya and Vogue Russia editor-in-cheif Aliona Doletskaya at Russian designer Alena Akhmadullina fashion show in Paris. Memorable detail - Aliona has our autumn Black Square issue on her knees))

NEWCOMER

one more arty neighbours)) very soon the walls of my room will look like a small gallery! 

i made one in the same technique as the fluffy target. the only difference is that last time i was listening to music while working and this time i watched a movie julie and julia it's highly inspiring! 

i have one more canvas of the same size and one more color that excites me so the set will be continued))

THE BALLETS RUSSES

the state tretyakov gallery has a very nice exhibition at the moment, it's dedicated to the centenary of famous russian ballets, more often called in french - the ballets russes, that were performed under the directorship of sergey diaghilev between 1909 and 1929 mostly in france and great britain. here are my favorite artworks from that exhibition:

APRIL

i've made a neighbor for my plastic blue, they look together ..hmm.. very blue)) the new artwork is called april, i've used printed cotton instead of canvas, and made the letters from several levels of sticky tape. all in all it took me about three days! to be honest - pretty annoying occupation cutting all this tiny sticky letters) the text you see is in russian and unfortunately i can't translate it properly cause it's a quote from the song that was sang in one of my favorite russian movies - moscow doesn't believe in tears. by the way i highly recommend you to watch it - it's the best))

MOST INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE IN RUSSIAN ART MARKET

january issue of russian art magazine artchronika has published the annual list of the most influential people on russian art scene. it includes artists, curators, collectors, investors, critics and other figures, dealing with russian art. the 1st place was given to joseph backstein, commissioner of the 3rd moscow biennale of contemporary art. he made all previous moscow biennales too, but the one held this year was outstanding by the geography of participants and number of visitors - during 1 month it was attended by half a million people! 2nd place is shared by roman abramovich and daria jukova, collectors and founders of garage center of contemporary art. the 3rd place is occupied by olga sviblova, moscow house of photography director. she is followed by marat gelman, jean-jubert martin, andrey erofeev, vasiliy tsereteli, sofia and roman trocenko, oleg kulick shalva breys. unfortunately the english language part of artchronika website doesn't work at the moment, otherwise i would have given you the link to the full list of winners.

NEW WORKING YEAR

it's so hard to return back to working life after long new year vacations! today was my first working day this year and i spent most of this day struggling with sleep)) even the artwork i've made today way a bit lazy and philosophic - it is fresh blue acryl color between two layers of polyethylene, which symbolizes a free arty spirit captured in the stuffy cities among concrete streets, polluted air and offices with artificial air from conditioners.. urban life is so depressing sometimes)

MY FIRST 2010 ARTWORK

let me introduce you my new artwork, its made from newspaper, sticked on the canvas, then acryl colors and glossy ribbons) the articles are dedicated to russian company's bankruptcies - i've took them from suturday issue of kommersant. haven't worked out the title yet, it always was the hardest part of job for me))

BYE BYE 2009

today i was thinking about the year that had just passed, and realised how great it was) in july i had an honor to assist spencer tunick while he made moscow individuals project for the biennale and he is so so great, we had awesome times making all those crazy naked photos in moscow streets)) then i met luc tuymans when i worked in the biennale press center and it was also an honor to work with him too! i also went to venice and for the first time in my life have seen the biennale of contemporary art there, and for the first time went to london where i've seen tate, serpentine and saatchi galleries, i've also travelled to melbourne and sydney and have seen many museums and galleries there, and in early winter i joined the team of art+auction russia which is the honour again)) the only thing that i regret is that in summer i passed the creative exams to st martins college of art and design in london but due to some private circumstances i didnt move there to study, now i realize that i should have done that despite all! anyway it was a great year and my new year wish is the next one to be at least the same)))
