KURYOKHIN PRIZE EXHIBITION

I went to Piter for the exhibition opening of Kuryokhin Prize, where I was long-listed this year. The winners will be announced only in March, but it was already very exciting to be among finalists, expecially knowing that I share the same nomination with my favorite Russian artists AES+F. It's a great honor for me!

Amazing news! I was longlisted to one of the most important Russian art prizes - Kuryokhin prize!!! Now will participate in the exhibition of finalists on December 22 in St Petersburg! Will keep you informed :)))

JUST DREAM IT

And here is the second artwork that I made for Martini Art Club and that was also awarded!

Concept: The Old Testament sais: "Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways" (The Book Of Job, 22:28). Today the theories of the future visualization have become so popular that books on this topic are published with the millions of copies. "Just dream it" project is an experiment that is aimed to check that law on practice. The project is based on a double substitution - the artist has invented a script of his future and represents it as something that had already happened in reality. Thus the artwork consists of the documents proving the events as if they have already happened.

In the process of work on the project I decided to make it a bit more complicated and have added some proofs of the events that were not made up by me but actually happened in reality. All those event used to be my dreams before, and one day just came true one by one. I wanted to emphasize that the border between a dream and reality is very unstable and you never know what dream of yours will become true tomorrow.

I AM ARTIST

In psychiatry dual personality is a particular case of dissociative identity disorder – diagnosis that describes a condition in which a person displays multiple distinct identities or personalities, each with its own pattern of perceiving and interacting with the environment. The artwork “I am artist” is an attempt to reveal the symptoms of dual personality of the artist who is in the process of his creative self-identification. Contemporary society, which is aimed only for consumption, doesnt leave any space for activities, that doesnt lead to material wealth. Often they are being removed beyond the standards. While the majority of people run for prestigious positions, expensive cars and brand clothes, the irresistable desire of the artist to do art and his deliberate renunciation of exchanging private time for salary seem to be not normal and leads to hesitations about the correctness of the chosen path. In case the artists doesn’t have strong will power under the pressure of society he often shows conformism, rejecting his natural passion for art in favour of more “normal” types of activities. As a result the diagnosis that firstly was only metaphoric threatens to become reality.

The artwork consists of 3 diptychs, each of 70 x 100 cm size (acryl on canvas).

Project 'I am artist' was exhibited at Martini Art Weekend exhibition (November 2011) and has been awarded the 1st prize - educational trip to London St.Martin's Collage of Art and Design.

TIME OF LONELINESS

Great news - I was shortlisted for the exhibition of young artists 'Today/Tomorrow' at the Moscow Museum of Modern art!!! Such a weird feeling to see your artworks at such amazing place - I was really honored to be chosen :))

Concept of the project ' Time of loneliness': Yesterday, today, tomorrow... If the events follow each other one by one, does that mean they exist at the same time? May be they are happening in different parallel universes and there is only one point of intersection that happens right now, one time shared during only one moment. In his work 'Time and The Other' philosopher Emmanuel Levinas speaks about time as something monstrous to the indifference of the objective reality and overcoming of lonelines. Time is cruel, merciless and transient. Aristotele called time the reason of destruction because time is the essence of movement, and movement deprives an oblect of everything that is typical for it. Time can only take away, and tomorrow everything that was a happiness today, will turn into loneliness, memories and sadness.

ART DECO GALLERY

Today was the opening of the exhibition Spring Charge at the Art Deco Gallery. I participated in it with 3 artworks.

One of the artworks is called Tabula Rasa.

Tabula rasa is the epistemological theory that individuals are born without built-in mental content and that their knowledge comes from experience and perception. Generally proponents of the tabula rasa thesis favour the "nurture" side of the nature versus nurture debate, when it comes to aspects of one's personality, social and emotional behaviour, and intelligence. The term in Latin equates to the English "blank slate" (or more accurately, "erased slate") (which refers to writing on a slate sheet in chalk) but comes from the Roman tabula or wax tablet, used for notes, which was blanked by heating the wax and then smoothing it to give a tabula rasa.

Such a nice event! Shortlisted students from Moscow art schools and also some international collages were exhibited in a huge Artplay hall, and by the way everything we exhibited was on sale :) So it was not only fun, but a serious business)) Great thanks to Julia Tarasuk, our curator and author of the whole project!

STUDENT ART FAIR

Just learnt that I was shortlisted for the STUDENT ART FAIR, so next weekend (18-19 December) I will participate in a huge group exhibition at Artplay Design Center!!! Will keep you informed and show all photos and catalogue as soon as it will be ready! All Moscow readers are highly welcomed :)

it finally happened! my work neopepperstein was exhibited at the russian, eastern & oriental fine art fair in london!!! dreams about show in london have come true and my london debut has happened :) moreover next march i will participate in my second london exhibition within a group project of artists, shortlisted for annya sand prize!
