ART&FEAR

Just finished reading a curious book by David Bayles and Ted Orland - 'Art and fear'. In Russian the second part of it's title was translated as 'A guide of survival for contemporary artists'. And it is really inspiring to hear, how similar the problems of arty people are - lack of confidence in yourself and your art, fear to fail, lack of support and understanding from others etc. As for me, I still feel very strange about being an artist - I know it's the only thing I can do and that I was ment to do, but the society I live in doesn't accept it well.. People consider me weird because I can't work in the office as they do, and because I see things in the other way they see, and have emotions different from theirs. In Russia it's still very unusual to do smth outstanding from things that are considered to be normal. Of course there many arty people who do what they love and succeed, but still the majority of people think very old-fashioned and too traditional and it's impossible to persuade them that life have changed and they don't have to do what they hate any longer, and that everyone can do whatever he wants and noone has a right to judge. Anyway, the book is really nice and helpful, I enjoyed it even though it took me only one hour to read it all))

ART LOGISTICS

it turned out that you can't just send any piece of art by fedex, even if it's made by your own hands! before that you have to go to the russian ministry of culture and undergo an examination by experts that your artwork can be sent out of russia, which is pretty annoying+)

JEAN MARC BUSTAMANTE

i spent this evening in the cultural foundation ekaterina at the opening of jean marc bustamante's personal exhibition. the project has been carried out as part of the program year of russia and france, 2010

the artist himself lookes as if he is taking a nap while others are representing the exhibition))

this fansy lady looks like an art object herself, but she is just a common visitor))

the floor in one of the gallery halls is covered with such objects on the carpets, the installation is called the continents.

i liked this one - three big plexiglass panels decorated with colors. made a foto of the middle part of it)strawberry as a sweat addition to the exhibition) looks so french, don't you think))

SMALL MOSCOW OFFICE

made some photos of the editorial office of the russian art magazine iskusstvo, where i spent all saturday. 

i like such small spaces, they feel like home, especially with such sweat artworks on the walls)) i can imagine how i make tea in this tiny kitchen after finishing writing some long article about the exhibition i've seen on the weekend and discassing with colleagues some arty gossip. sometimes i wish i didn't change profession and proceeded with journalism)

TANATOS BANIONIS

in 2008 a group of russian artists have gathered anonymously into the art group tanatos banionis. among all projects they've made my favorite one is divine wind. the thing was that 5 girls had agreed to sacrifice their backs for the huge tattoos, dedicated to the portraying of the heroic deeds of 5 japanese kamikadze. the exhibition was held in moscow museum of contemporary art and included photos of model's backs, video of the tattos making process, movie about kamikadze and many other interesting things. in one word, it was amazing))

LA BIENNALE DI VENEZIA

this summer i was in venice at the 53th biennale of contemporary art, and it was really amazing)) i think i'll make several posts about that later, just to share fotos and impressions, they were really great))

1ST POST))

today, on the 1st of november, 3rd moscow biennale of contemporary art has been officially closed. it started on september 25 and was supposed to last till 25th of october, but due to the extraordinary amounts of people willing to attend the main project in the center of contemporary culture garage, it was a bit prolonged. i was working in the organizing team of the main project, curated by jean-hubert martin, also helped spencer tunick to organize his moscow shooting, worked in press center of biennale and made a media campaign of the first russian excibition of luc tuymans, organized by baibakov art projects. unfortunally i didn't have time to make blog during the biennale, but that was the time when i realised that moscow is becoming more and more close to the world art prosesses, and i decided to share some arty news from russia, we have lots of things going on here))
